SEO Consultant Newcastle
Hi, I’m Blake Smith, an independent SEO consultant based on the NSW Central Coast, just south of Lake Macquarie and Newcastle.
I’ve spent more than 10 years helping businesses improve their visibility in Google, organic traffic and revenue, and I work directly with Newcastle and Hunter businesses, marketing teams and developers.
SEO Consulting Services for Newcastle Businesses
Newcastle and Hunter businesses tend to get in touch with a specific problem to solve, rather than a general request for more SEO.
I can help if:
-
✓
Organic traffic or enquiries have slipped and you want to know why.
-
✓
You serve the wider Hunter, not just Newcastle, and your website doesn’t reflect that.
-
✓
A new website or migration is planned and you want SEO involved before launch.
-
✓
Your Shopify, WooCommerce or WordPress store underperforms in organic search.
-
✓
You attract searches from outside the region and need to be clearly identified as Newcastle, NSW.
-
✓
Your team or developer needs senior SEO direction.
-
✓
You want a clear, prioritised technical audit.
-
✓
You want to improve how your business appears in Google and in AI search tools.
Scope depends on the website and the opportunity, not a standard package.
Depending on the problem, that can involve technical SEO, strategy, on-page work, content, internal linking, migrations, ecommerce, digital PR, local SEO or AI search visibility.
Local search in Newcastle
What Makes SEO in Newcastle Different?
There’s more than one Newcastle, and Google has to work out which one you mean.
Newcastle, NSW and Newcastle upon Tyne
Newcastle is also the name of a major city in the north of England, and of other places around the world. Google uses the searcher’s location and the context of the query to decide which one is relevant, and for local searches in the Hunter that usually works well.
It matters more for businesses that get searches from further afield, such as tourism, education, events or specialist B2B services. For those businesses, titles, page content and structured data should make it clear that you’re in Newcastle, NSW, and Search Console is worth checking for impressions from the wrong country.
Newcastle and the Wider Hunter
Many businesses here serve far more than Newcastle itself. Customers in Maitland, Cessnock, Port Stephens and Lake Macquarie may search with their own town name, with “Hunter”, or just with the service.
Google lists relevance, distance and prominence as the main local ranking factors, so a business in Charlestown won’t usually have the same Local Pack visibility in Maitland. Reaching the wider region tends to depend on organic search: pages written for the areas you genuinely serve, supported by authority and good internal linking.
For many Hunter businesses, the region is the market, not just the city.
Very talented internet marketer who thinks outside of the box.
Why Work With an Independent SEO Consultant?
You’ll deal directly with me. The person who analyses your website is the one who makes the recommendations.
I’m based on the Central Coast, so Newcastle and the Hunter are close to home. Most of the work happens remotely, with calls, shared documents and access to your analytics.
I can work on my own or alongside your team, developer or existing agency.
Recommendations are prioritised by likely commercial impact, so effort goes where it’s most likely to pay off.
How I Approach SEO
I start with the business: what you sell, where your customers are and how the website is expected to generate work.
From there I work through the evidence: organic performance, Search Console, what the search results actually show, competitors, site structure, internal links, technical health, content and links.
For Newcastle and Hunter businesses, I also look at:
-
01
Local Pack visibility across Newcastle and the Hunter
-
02
Your Google Business Profile setup and the categories it uses
-
03
Where distance limits Google Maps reach
-
04
City demand versus regional and town demand
-
05
Whether separate pages for towns like Maitland are justified
The right plan depends on how far your market really reaches.
Common questions
Questions From Newcastle Businesses
Do you work with businesses across the Hunter?
Yes. I work with businesses in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens and the wider Hunter, as well as on the Central Coast.
Does Google confuse Newcastle NSW with Newcastle in the UK?
It can, particularly for searches that come from outside Australia or carry little other context.
Check the Countries report in Google Search Console. If a meaningful share of impressions comes from the UK, clearer location signals in titles, content and structured data can help.
